Rapid modernisation and modern lifestyles are threatening the survival
of the ancient Cham culture and other ethnic traditions in central Quang
Nam Province, home to two UNESCO world heritage sites and a world
biosphere reserve.
Many valuable artefacts from the Cham culture have
been found in the southern central province of Binh Thuan. The new
discoveries are important for ongoing research on the ancient culture,
according to Nguyen Xuan Ly, director of the provincial museum.
Kate Festival, the Cham people''s traditional
celebration to remember ancestors and gods will take place on November
10-11 in HCM City''s Can Gio District, featuring delegates of the Cham
from nine southern provinces.
The Kate Festival celebration of the ethnic Cham
people will take place at Po Sah Inu Tower in Binh Thuan Province''s Phan
Thiet City on October 15-16 with a series of traditional rituals and
festivities.
The remains of a unique Cham tower have been found
in Phong Le Village, Cam Le District in the central city of Da Nang, an
area not known for Cham relics.
Cultural researchers, academics and historians
discussed solutions to restore the traditional silk craft of Quang Nam
Province at a seminar in Hoi An City on Saturday.
